Alberta iGaming registry — month one

The headline

The market did not settle after launch day. Three brands started accepting Alberta players in a single 48-hour window in early August, three weeks after the open, and the first new operator registration since the market opened was recorded on 4 August.

Registrations

• 4 August — TWHG Inc. registered, class iGaming - Operator, expiry 29 July 2027. This is the first new iGaming operator registration since the market opened; every other entity on the register was already there on launch day. AGLC publishes no operating-as name for it, and no public source ties the entity to a consumer brand, so we list it unclassified rather than guess.

• 5 August — LNW Gaming Canada Ltd. changed class metadata from Casino, iGaming to iGaming. A supplier record, not an operator; no effect on the operator count.

• 14 July — a note on the source itself. AGLC stopped publishing the registrants PDF and moved to a live database export. One entity, Cadway Limited, disappeared from the export for exactly one day and returned on 15 July with its registration intact. That was a migration artifact, not a withdrawal. We now require two consecutive days of absence plus a second source before recording any removal.

Who went live

Being on the register is not the same as accepting Alberta players. Against the AGLC-affiliated AiGC approved-sites directory, live operators went from 18 to 23.

• 23 July — PartyCasino and Sports Interaction (both ElectraWorks Maple / Entain).

• 5 August — Bally Bet Sportsbook & Casino and Monopoly Casino & Sportsbook (both Bally's Canada, Inc.). The first brands to go live after launch day rather than on it.

The gap nobody publishes

That last number is the interesting one and it is not published anywhere else. Registration is a licence to operate, not evidence of operating. Nearly half the register has not opened a door to an Alberta player.

Concentration

The register lists legal entities, not consumer brands. Mapped to brands, the market is more concentrated than the operator count suggests: Apollo Entertainment stands behind 7 casino brands; Cadtree and Skill On Net 4 each.

Late addition — 12 August

One more registration landed the day before this issue went out, inside the reporting period. It is the second since the market opened, and it changes how the 4 August entry above reads.

• 12 August — GG International Limited o/a GG Poker registered, class iGaming - Operator, expiry 12 August 2027. It is the 52nd row on the register, which now stands at 52 rows across 38 legal entities. Unlike TWHG Inc., this row does publish an operating-as name, so the brand is taken from the source rather than left blank. AGLC's own stream field is empty on this row and on no other operator row, and there is no advertised Alberta product to read one from, so the product is left unclassified rather than guessed. GG Poker holds no card in the AiGC approved-sites directory and no live-status entry: registered, but not live. It takes no ranking position here and carries no rating.

Two registrations eight days apart, on 4 and 12 August, after three weeks with none from the 13 July open. Two events are not a trend, but they are enough to stop reading 4 August as a one-off: post-opening registration is a recurring class now, and whether it settles into a cadence is a question for issue #2.

Method and reuse

Registry data is diffed daily against the AGLC registrants database export. Live status is resolved against the AiGC approved-sites directory. Every snapshot is archived with its date; the underlying dataset, including the brand-to-legal-entity map, is published under CC BY 4.0 and free to cite.

  13 August — Blueberry (Alberta) Ltd. registered, class iGaming - Operator, expiry 13 August 2027. The register now stands at 53 rows across 39 legal entities. The registration was granted on the day this issue went out and was recorded in that evening's check, after publication, so the body above counts 52 rows across 38 entities. AGLC publishes no operating-as name for the entity and no public source ties it to a consumer brand, so brand and stream are both left blank — the same treatment as TWHG Inc. Blueberry holds no card in the AiGC approved-sites directory and no live-status entry: registered, but not live. It takes no ranking position here and carries no rating. It falls inside this issue's reporting period of 13 July – 13 August 2026. It is the third post-opening registration and the second on consecutive days, so the "eight days apart" reading in Late addition — 12 August describes the state at publication, not the state now.
