Understanding odds formats

American odds (moneyline)

The standard in North American sportsbooks. A negative number (e.g. -110) tells you how much to bet to win $100. A positive number (e.g. +200) tells you how much you win on a $100 bet. Alberta sportsbooks like FanDuel and BetMGM default to American odds.

Decimal odds

Multiply your stake by the decimal number to get your total payout (stake included). $20 × 1.91 = $38.20. Popular in Europe and used by some Canadian books.

Fractional odds

Traditional UK format. 10/11 means you win $10 for every $11 staked. Less common in Alberta but still shown by some operators.

Implied probability

The odds tell you the sportsbook's implied probability of an outcome. Odds of -110 imply a 52.4% chance. If you believe the true probability is higher, the bet has positive expected value.
